Terms of Use

By creating an account or using Level Up Japanese ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Level Up Japanese provides online Japanese language study tools for JLPT preparation, including lessons, vocabulary, kanji, grammar, reading and listening practice, quizzes, mock tests, spaced repetition, progress tracking, and optional AI-assisted explanations.

The Service is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Japan Foundation or Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES). Practice scores and pass simulations are estimates only and do not guarantee results on the official JLPT.

You must provide accurate registration information and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. Notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service, or the minimum age required in your country if higher. Users under 18 should use the Service with a parent or guardian's permission where required by law.

You agree not to:

• Violate applicable laws or third-party rights
• Scrape, reverse engineer, or overload the Service without permission
• Share account access or resell content from the Service
• Upload malware, spam, or abusive content
• Use the Service to cheat on official exams or misrepresent your abilities

Lesson text, questions, and other materials in the Service are owned by Level Up Japanese or its licensors and are provided for your personal, non-commercial study use. Official JLPT trademarks belong to their respective owners.

You retain rights to content you submit (for example, messages to the AI Teacher). You grant us a limited license to process that content solely to operate and improve the Service.

AI-generated explanations and chat responses may contain errors. They are for learning support only and are not professional, legal, or immigration advice. Do not rely on AI output for decisions beyond language study.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features with reasonable notice where practical. We may update these Terms; continued use after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date on this page.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LEVEL UP JAPANESE AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (USD 100) IF YOU USE A FREE TIER.

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or pose security or legal risk. Upon termination, your right to access the Service ends; provisions that by nature should survive will remain in effect.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country require otherwise. Disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Tokyo, Japan, where permitted by law.
